It is great to be a “safety gear fetishist” in a country that takes Health & Safety very serious. I make sure Bill is wearing the proper gear as well.
When I tell my students that I really like safety gear they scream “Too much information” and cover their ears. I wonder where they think I wear the safety gear; I spend pretty much all my spare time in my workshop building stuff... ;-)

It’s move-in day! Bill and I have moved in 2 tons of equipment to our new workshop today. Can’t wait to get KillaJoule ready for racing again. :-)
Thank you ChargeNet NZ for making this space available to us!

—- Today’s challenge: fitting a 5.5 m vehicle on a 4.3 meter trailer. —-
One of the difficulties with relocating to the opposite side of the planet is that we had to leave our truck and trailer behind in Colorado, USA. The cost of importing them to New Zealand would have been horrendous, and they likely wouldn’t be legal here anyway.
Thanks to generous friends and sponsors, it appears that we can borrow both trailer and tow vehicle to get to the Big Boys Toys car show in November and the Goudies Road land speed event in December. Not having to buy a trailer and a tow vehicle eases the financial strain and the storage problem.
Thank you Philip Court for leading us the trailer, and GVI - Genuine Vehicle Imports for lending us a tow vehicle. You are awesome and making the racing program possible!
It was fun trying to find the trailer that is being stored on the country side, 2 hours drive from Auckland. Instead of an address, I was given GPS coordinates of its position. We got close using regular GPS navigation, and used the measurement tool on Google maps to finally locate the trailer behind a barn. My first real experience of geocaching. :-)
The challenge will be to figure out how to fit the KillaJoule on a trailer that is a meter (3 ft) too short and not enclosed, but everything can be done with the bit of clever engineering! ;-)
We took all the measurements today, and will design any needed extensions as well as a rain cover before we pick up the trailer in a couple of weeks. Life is always an adventure!
