I have to admit that it is pretty cool to watch yourself on TV…

I am so excited to be a Nissan Leaf owner again. This 2013 beauty is fully loaded with everything I want: pearl white paint (so it stays cool in the New Zealand summer heat), light interior (for the same reason), fast charging port (everything is about being fast in my life!), 360 degree backup camera, low rolling resistance tires, and Bose sound system (yes, my car plays both kinds of music - country _and_ western).
GVI Electric in Auckland, New Zealand just had a boatload of mint condition used Nissan Leafs (and other cars) arrive from Japan (including my new beauty). Check out their website if you are on this side of the planet and thinking of getting an EV: www.gvi.kiwi
All Leafs they sell are also compatible with the ChargeNet NZ fast-charging network! www.charge.net.nz ... See more
--- Flying "upside down" ---
Enjoying flight instruction in New Zealand! I am catching up on some parts that weren't included in the U.S. private pilot curriculum and learning new procedures and rules, but I will have my NZ license fairly soon.
Very much enjoying the summer, the scenery, and the nice fleet of Robin 2120 airplanes at North Shore Aero Club! The Robin is quite different from the Cessna that I flew in Boulder, Colorado, but it flies very nicely.
Later on I might actually fly "upside down" for real; North Shore Aero Club has two aerobatics planes and several aerobatics instructors. :-D ... See more
Because it is off-season for land speed racing (and I am busy trying to settle down in Auckland, New Zealand), you will have to put up with some other EV-related posts for now.
This is a very nice write-up by UoA’s Formula SAE team leader Blake Roberts. I am super-excited to work with these ambitious young engineers in 2018! ... See more
The team has just arrived back in beautiful (if intermittently) sunny Auckland! We're keen to share our recent experience at competition in Melbourne. Read through Team Leader Blake's update below - detailing the highs and the lows! ... See more
Back to my new home in Auckland, New Zealand after a week with the University of Auckland Formula SAE Team in Melbourne, Australia.
The team didn't quite reach their goals, but still did better than last year and came home with two trophies and three podium positions.
I am absolutely blown away by the skills, dedication, and professional conduct of these 45 undergraduate engineering students! They design and build a complete electric race car in less than a year with very little faculty input, and their on-track behavior is more professional than many "professional" racing team members.
It will be an honor to be their faculty advisor for next year and help them climb to the top of the podium in December 2018! ... See more
That's a wrap from Melbourne!
We unfortunately didn't manage to complete endurance but we walk away from a massive year with our heads high and a couple of trophies under our belt.
While the dynamic results weren't what we were aiming for throughout the year, we achieved a few milestones nonetheless: our first completed technical inspection with an EV as well as our first completed dynamic events with an EV (acceleration and autocross). We also achieved podium results in every static event for the first time in our 13 year history!
Thanks for all the support over the year! We've got much more media to share over the next few days. ... See more
